SOCIAL MEDIA & ENGLISH LANGUAGE TODAY

Social media has an overbearing presence in today's life across the globe. It's impact is even more assiduously felt where population density is more. In south east Asian region, especially India, we are gawking at this march of social media presence.

This brings us to notice the impact of English learning down the line of these commoners who, even a decade ago, did not matter. Commoners are using this language through text messaging, enjoying watching something on social media uploaded in English. Is it not funny to guess that an illiterate man is using phone numbers in English numericals? Or can read or guess the text sent in English?

Govt. NGOs have, for the last five decades at least, been plying hard to educate commoners. To what extent so far?? Answer is not to mentioned. But, technology has done it !!!

Rural India can boast of this change. Not only they watch, understand, share but also, make videos, Reels etc using guidelines written in English. Miracle has happened !!!

I've always held that Technology will change social behavioral pattern. This social massive attitudinal change will bring about change in political outlook. This will force, sooner or later, the political forces to control corruption and mass looting of the Govt coffer. Besides the greatest tool, mobile phone, in every body's hand has come to play as a symbol of social empowerment. Any injustice, torture, corrupt practice, by the click of the camera, go viral in a few minutes dragging the perpetrator to justice.

Previously, people in the upper echelons, would block information and practice corruption. Social media has hammered a death nail in its coffin. Imagine, stock market a couple of decades ago, happened to be a blurry game of luck. Today, many apps have come to play on the fore. One can judge any company going through its profit & loss statement, Balance Sheet, Annual report etc. Any perpetrators are quickly booked by the watchdogs, such as SEBI, ED etc. All because of Digital transformation in India. Middle class today dare to invest and reap the benefit. Financial Maturity is dawning on us !!!

I know there will still be voices of dissent. It's an ongoing process. In a few years, even a common man will matter to the society at large. Who knows, even a poor fellow at some remote corner, will be able to pull down the Govt like the legendary poor village-man Majhi who pulled a mountain down to show that NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE !!!

  1. Enjoyed reading this one too..!
Indeed all of our government's developmental schemes like Sarva Siksha Abhiyan, Empowering girl child, Padhega bharat badhega bharat,.. to name just a few seem to be much less effective when compared to the spontaneous changes and awareness among the commoners that are brought about by our social media. Kudos to our social media..!
