ATTENTION ECONOMY – FUTILITY OF NEWS ENTERTAINMENT VIDEOS OTT - POVERTY AND UMPLOYABILITY

20 years ago, when I’d visit a friend’s house, he’d sit talking to me over sweet nothing without distraction. We’d occasionally be served tea, snacks and the Addda would snowball into a congregation of 8-9 young people. When we’d visit our relatives’, they would be busy entertaining us ruminating over our common past and heartily cracking jokes. When, after a day’s heavy engagement, my father would return home, we’d sit together to exchange our day’s happenings among us. Thus, we’re counselled by our parents and our interpersonal bondage would grow. We had emotional attachments. We actually came to the rescue of anyone who were in dire situation or digressing from moral, ethical path.

On the contrary, today we find people sitting in a place together not talking to each other, rather engrossed in their respective mobile phones. Father has lost connection with the other members of the family, ditto with other people in the family. They do not have an iota of an experience and knowledge to guess as to how and where the young members are being led to.

Human sensitivity is evidently found lacking in today’s world. Moral and emotional values are eroding. Children, in some cases, are sky rocketing in their career, earning well and are seen settled in life apparently. But, inwardly, they are unhappy, having intense counselling under some psychologist, undergoing monitoring under a psychiatrist, consuming pills every day to keep their outward mental balance. Most of the young couples are queuing up in the Doctor’s chambers for IVF babies, for they are incapable of begetting babies naturally. The very root of pleasure and sexuality are dropping down among the young couples. They are earning in millions, but are unhappy. Lawyers’ services are pressed into action either to reconcile or litigate between the young couples.

Over obsession with competitive careerdom together with virtual lifestyle have its toll on these unfortunate souls.

Where do they spend time in the virtual world? Let us begin with the people in their forties, fifties. They are addicted to news. What are contents of this news? Are they of any practical help in the life of these people? I doubt. These middle aged people might have, instead, generated their second source of income, a mode to obtain value’s call in life or get recognition, do charitable work to their satisfaction, persued their hobby to their heart’s content, had they prudently employed their time. It’s time for them to prepare for a life of happy retired life. It may be augmented by securing their existence with a view to have surplus corpus that could support them until their nineties neutralising the adversity of inflations and economic volatility.

This may, for them, be done if they hone their talent, prune their hobbies, interests and keep themselves upgraded by way of reading educative books, seeing videos, surfing the net productively to learn more with a focused mind instead of seeing useless news items.

Coming to housewives. They are seen enjoying hours together on social media platform chatting, seeing OTT entertainments which, in no way, is going to enrich them. They are hooked on Facebook,  Tiktok, Reels, Youtube goggling up at the screen at  sweet-nothing-kind of production. The creators earn, they lose their time. They might have concentrated on building and enhancing relationship among family members, looking after and encouraging them to go and get more from the world. They might have started doing small enterprises like cooking, knitting and fashion, singing, dancing, teaching kids etc. Such efforts would have augmented their family income add up to their value. To achieve this, they must tear themselves from these purposeless entertainments and focus on enhancing their quality.

Children are the most effected lot. They are lost in Reels, movies, Cartoons, Games. They need to employ their time more constructively. It’s, unfortunately, they who lose it the most. It’s their time to enlighten themselves with the knowledge of Finance, Sports, Careers and professions. It’s time for them to educate themselves into the new modes of earning, new technologies and how these can be turned into generating wealth.

Until we get our elders to recognise this and push this in secondary education syllabus on pragmatic use of mobile phones and internet, there is no scope of brightening our children’s life, let alone guide them.

UNDEREMPLOYMENT IS MORE DANGEROUS THAN UNEMPLOYMENT

Under-employment is that kind of obligated and forced undertaking of job where the candidate does not have any satisfaction but being poor he's been forced to take it up. Often, his Bosses do not possess the skill, managerial capacity that the candidate possesses. It generates a very complex situation.

Under-employment is found in a poor economy where job opportunity is abysmally low. Take for instance the state of job market in India. Less than 0.3% of the population are the Permanent Govt Servants. About 3% work in organised sector, I mean, very big Companies. Rest are either on contractual hire-fire term or are into the gig Job.

Gig job is called such jobs that are not the primary source of income for the person. Let's assume X works in a big organisation as a permanent employee drawing a nice comfortable salary. His job time is 10 AM to 6 PM. He drives an auto from 6/30 PM to 10 PM. This auto-driver position is a gig job for him. Similarly, a lady having inherited a good fortune from her family and in-laws, having a fat-salary-earning-or-businessman--husband takes up an engagement as a teacher at a paltry salary of Rs 15,000/- Per month in a private school, we'll call her teacher's job a gig job. It's a pastime to avoid boredom for her. This is not her primary source of income. Often, gig-job-holders do not stick long and organisations are happy as they do not have to pressurise their Balance Sheet. Zomato, Swiggy, Online order delivery  Boys, Tax-filers etc are more examples at hand. Gig-jobbers take up the salary which is far too poor to sustain a family of a regular, serious earner. This is one of the reasons of poor salary in the private sector.

Given such a poor curseful scenario, wherein any man of born-high-caliber-often-in-a-poor-family would often curse his being into this poor country where corruption, nepotism, undeserving people teem these lucrative sectors.

Theoretically, any organisation awards a great deal of discretionary power to the Boss. Any big and corrupt, inefficient structure has less policy and more discretion when it comes to extracting output from the employees. Why?

Because, people work either by Money or By emotion. Majority people are unrealistic egoistic short term thinkers. They are easily motivated by emotion. Give them a few ESOP, Rewards, Medals and sing the song praising them before other--RECOGNITION comes on their way and they are damn pleased to give even more.

A very few clever money oriented people are REALISTIC. They observe how much materially are they compensated. They work on money alone. Such people are very dangerous for being underemployed. They curse their economy, country, Govt and the organisational hierarchy. They can't leave the job and seek a qualified proper employment as this poor economy does not provide them one. Hence, they are stuck.

For better understanding, let me give a few examples. A BE, BTech is made to work as a supervisor which is the job of a Polytechnic Diploma Holder. A PhD is working as a Group D peon in a Govt Office. An MCA is working in a Call-center making small talks-calls in night shifts. A Master degree or a Degree Holder is seen working as a security man in an ATM which might have been manned even by a Class VIII Passed youth.etc. These are only a handful of instances that we encounter in our daily life and in our neighbourhood. They are taking away the jobs of the low qualified youth who run amok being unemployed for their life

The under-employed in an organised Private or Govt sector becomes a dissatisfied lot. Their dissatisfaction snowballs into sabotage of work. An Egoistic, under-pressure, barking Boss makes them go hay ware. The under-employed man dislikes responsibility, disregards Bosses, disrupts the work flow albeit cleverly. Which means, you can't fix responsibility on him. He'll not refuse any responsibility before the Boss, but he'll look to it that the job is not well done. In a big organisation, This often leads to avoidance, sidelining the employee, which, in turn, relieves him of the responsibility and he eventually becomes lazy.

Have you not noticed corrupt officials, lazy workers in the big organisations? Do you not have an experience of often having a nagging authority not showing you recognition and respect? Please write your comment below and let me know.

ELECTRONIC GADGETS AND THEIR IMPACT ON YOUNG MINDS

Engaging is the gamut of electronic and digital world and even more enticing is their meta world. We're living in virtual world. Real world is just to keep our body and soul together. We live in this real world only as long as we've to keep earning or prepare for future earning.

Let me elucidate it. Students open their books and learn, write, do practices. Working people actually travel to go to office and do their real world jobs. Policemen, Doctors, Lawyers in the court, Engineers associated with civil constructions, mechanical activities with the machines , corporate professionals up the management ladder etc are required in reality to be on field to execute real world plans. Housewives have to actually cook/order food, buy vegetables, peel, grate them, maids need to actually visit the households to clean the floor, wash dishes. We can't live without these basic real-world activities.

Beyond this, every one is seen busy toying with their mobile phones, laptops, desktops. What are they doing? Are they into any activity that will expand or generate their channels of profitable income??? Certainly no. They are whiling away their time in the digital world with their virtual friends.

Will these friends be of any use in actual time of necessity? Yes or no both. What is in stake for the youngsters in this process? Their time of course. They are losing more of their time for incubation. This time is more vital.

Studies have found out that human attention is lost from overuse of this digital world. Today META world has been devised by every business houses to keep people engaged in the digital world. Why is this competition?

Because it's the ATTENTION ECONOMY wherein this naive world has moved into. In the digital world, when someone's attention is drawn and one is hooked into seeing something for long, that PERSON BECOMES THE PRODUCT. People serve this new world economy by WASTING THEIR OWN TIME THEREBY ENRICHING A FEW.

I've been dealing with the young minds for over three decades now. I've noticed how gullible they are. They are easily attracted towards anything that appeals to their eyes, ears. Digital world has, in the last decade, palated this opportunity exponentially to them. Now, if one tries to point it out and take those devices away, they would throw tantrums. Soon, ordinary students will continue to perform poor, brilliant students will lose their moral, ethical senses and turn into living zombies.

WHAT IS POVERTY - HOW CAN IT BE OVERCOME

Anything that we require while living on Earth is dependent on money mostly. Most of the solutions may be achieved through surplus availability of personal solvent financial status. So, unanimous observation is money is an indispensable and integral part of our life. Theoretically, we must strive to secure our life and those of our near dear ones with the help of cash in hand at our disposal.

Let us look at the statistics. 1% of world population is rich, 3-4% are middle class, rest 95% are poor. What may, one may ask, comprise this segregation? The rich are those who do not have to trade with their TIME to procure money, money is invested to give them exponential returns. Middle class are the ones who have secured their and their immediate near dear ones’ lives, but will not leave any legacy to their progeny. Poor are the ones who could not secure their education, health and daily living needs and hence, are dependent on the Govt / NGOs doles.

For the sake of easy calculation, let us assume there are 3% rich, 97% poor worldwide, at any demography, country wise. 97% of money is concentrated in the hands of 3% and vice versa. There is no exception to this, it’s the universally held dimension. Even if by some sheer chance of event, this can be toppled, that is, money be evenly distributed among 100% of population, this system will revert to this earlier ratio soon. Why does the wealth get concentrated in only 3%s hand?

It’s because 3% always think, behave and act differently, proactively. They manage their wealth. The poor manage their labour –skill. What options individuals like us have? To walk over to the 3% elite club. How can one do that??

A million dollar question indeed!!

One must discard present mode of education since childhood. At the silly least, one must not attach importance to the present mode of obsolete education which aims to create labours (Even professional-Doctors, Engineers, Lawyers, CA-they all trade with their time to earn their livelihood). Today’s education teaches never to think of money, transactions, wealth, investments because it’s the root of all evil. Financial literacy is never practically demonstrated in our schools. They spoil kids’ future by making them rote the syllabus that will not be of direct use in future.

Talk to a Doctor, successful Chartered Accountant, Engineer, Lawyers. Do they have to recall what is Boyle’s Law, Pythagoras theorem, valency chart, Bohr’s atomic model in their day to day professional life? At the most, one can consult the book and find them.

But the very word that a kid learns in English has a direct application until he/she carries on his/her profession. The grammatical application he/she remembers can help him/her write/speak effectively to draw appreciation and enhance clientele.

On the contrary, if you ask any Indian teenager about Bank Draft, Overdraft, Difference of usages between savings and current account, he/she will, in all probability, gawk and geek at you-being clueless. But, this is the very knowledge that is going to be used in his / her life after he/she starts earning, sometimes, even before that.

Apart from lagging financial literacy, there is wanting of education in how to create heirloom, legacy and wealth. But, I’ll discuss them in some other article.

Unless stress is given in inculcating financial wisdom and value of English learning in educational institutions, we’ll continue to produce burdensome idiocy and the resultant poor will continue to be more helpless and dependent on Taxpayers’ money.

GEOPOLITICAL TENSION ACROSS RUSSIA UKRAIN--MARKET TANKS, CAUSE FOR WORRY ??

Sensex and Nifty with Dow have been showing weakness. Already market has been slashed by about 10% from its recent peak. Is it time to worry?

War has always been a very very lucrative business since time immemorial. It provides opportunity to fish in muddy water. It helps people in power to divert commoners' attention from the murky politics. This, in turn, gives them time to incite nationalism and send the young to death. Shady deals in politics happens across the globe. That's why there is so much competition to go to the top in politics. War game provides the politicians to enrich themselves by the way of weapon-buying and the associated kickbacks.Remember the figure, worldwide, is in trillions. Without putting up hard core business or spending laborious time in profession, politicians make billions of dollars. Their heirs can spend life for seven generations to come. That's why war is so necessary.

Coming to economy. Disruptions happen while war happens. Supply chain is damaged. This leads to panic and inflation. This leads to increase in the price of Gold in short term. Real estate tanks even lower. Stocks become jittery. It's time to fish in muddy water for the Hedge fund managers and make shady deals with the cheap companys' promoters. Money is made in trillions while commoners, again, lose.

It's always the ordinary investors who lose and clevers make money. Question is, when in a wartime situation can this happen? It happens only when trade sanctions are placed among the countries  as a retaliatory measure. Can US, Russia EU afford trade sanctions at this moment? I doubt. Because inflation at US ids all time high at 7%. It'll shoot through the roof if sanctions are put in place. Hence, to my mind, it's going to be temporary phase to make money.

MY EXPERIENCE TO TRAVEL TO GURUDONGMER LAKE-HIGHEST ALTITUDE LAKE IN WORLD & ZERO POINT YUMTHANG VALLEY SIKKIM

Gurudongmer Lake is situated at 18,000 Ft above sea label on the Lap of the Himalayas in Sikkim state. We visited in the month of November sneaking a short 6 days period to to do a quick qora or a round through east and north Sikkim.

The first day was spent in settling the hotel at M G Marg of Gangtok, dealing with travel agent, giving documents for the necessary permissions etc. We reached in the late afternoon by bus. Next day, we started off to Lachung. We reached at about 5 pm to Lachung and boarded in a homestay. The conduct of the owner was very congenial. He offered us snacks, tea apart from looking after our needs and tantrums. The temperature soon went down to 4 degree Celsius. I couldn't even wash my hands with normal water. They would pain immensely. By 9 pm we had our dinner and forced ourselves to go to sleep.

Next day, the natural ambiance we encountered in the morning was never to be forgotten. A Thing of Beauty is a Joy Forever. I realised this. The snow-capped mountain peaks together with the greenaries around took our breath out. But, Little did we have time to pause and ponder.

We started off for Zero point. It's about 15,000 Ft above sea lebel. We reached there at around 1 PM. There was ice all around. I was carrying Oxygen cans, medicines to counter breathlessness. Susmita madam and Dipta had a little breathlessness. Oxygen can came handy for them.

I went down to take pics and videos by the side of the tributary which later turns out to be Tista down the Hill. The beauty was awesome. The sky was clear blue and there was white all around. People were busy sliding across the slope on ice. It was really a fun to enjoy and watch.

On our way back, we gave a stop over Yumthnag Valley. The same river was found flowing here. Yaks were an added advantage for those who wanted to enjoy their back and be jerked around.

Before 3 pm, we started back to Lachen. This time around, we reached our new Home stay at Lachen at about 7 PM. We're warmly entertained by the staff of the homestay but they were too formal and commercial. No extra benefit would they provide. The food, for me was awful. I'm vegetarian. Even those Non-veg around were not given chicken as promised. Every one fretted.

Next morning, after tea, at 6/30 am we started towards Gurudongmer Lake. I'll not forget the natural beauty on our way around. There were ice and white sheet all around. This entire route is supervised by Indian Military. They have caffe canteen for refreshment. There is no hotel, shop here. We had snacks, local food, coffee and kept moving.

At about 1 PM, after a tiring journey, we reached Gurudongmer Lake, the highest lake in the world. Here, Susmita Madam, Dipta had to constantly take  puffs from the oxygen can. I offered a gentleman oxygen puffs till he recovered from severe breathlessness.

I walked down the stair to reach the lake and had my heartful of snaps. The beauty was mesmerising. I walked around the lake to some 30% extent where no one dared. It was spiritual !!!

Caveat is , do not dare if you have COPD, or breathlessness. You can walk down the stairs but it will be very difficult to walk up. One should pause at places while climbing up the staircase. After spending full 50 mins, we were ripped out of the place by our driver, Prasant. Again the tedious journey began back to Gangtok.

Geopolitical conflict War Looming on the Horizon ??

Barely have we tided over the COVID crisis, has another omen been tolling in the form of geopolitical conflict. Is a war in the offing?

Already Biden seems to be getting involved in America's elderly brother's shoes. He's started shooting fiery observation at Russia's military concentration across Ukrain's border.

Now, the inevitable question. Is it a news highlight or an omen of new conflict arising or a ploy decoy public attention from world's poor economy ??

World's overall economy is poor. Money is as usual concentrated and the unemployment inflation are gnawing. There is unrest everywhere. Inflation is about whooping 7% in a country like the USA. Govt requires a diversion to engage public and attribute their mindless money printing impact on War and military expenses. India is also showing signs of anti incumbency factor in every state.

Economy and politics are ever happily married together. Economy is the sum total of population's productivity. Most of the God created animals in humans are simpletons. They lack sharp mindset to change themselves, adapt to the changing demand to garner more and secure their progeny. Hence 97% will continue to drag GDP and 3% will continue to feed them through Tax liabilities. Whenever 97% feels pangs, the need for diversion arises.

Important upcoming develop in the US is today's FED's meeting on tapering, ie, such excess money from the system. It will have to happen for the sake to control inflation and the Stock market will tumble. There's money to be made based on news. What else provides that opportunity more that the news of War??

PUSHPA RAJ- WHY SUCH MOVIES IN VERNACULAR NEED ENGLISH

Talking about the most happening place - movies, we understand the necessity to communicate with the world's multilingual masses to rake up more net (money/profit). It's in the name of profit that the regional languages films are turning more to multilingual Bot application. In brief, the application to develop more English oriented tools to entertain more people has overshot the demand of English knowledge.

Pushpa Raj is the alias story of notoriety gained erstwhile Birappan who became a towering personality in the underworld for Red Sandalwood smuggling. He ran a successful syndicate involving the circle of policemen, politicians and managed to hide and operate with massive gain. Allu Arjun, the young Star, has portrayed this character in this blockbuster movie.

The trend is clear. The more the response from audience, the more is the chance to anglicise it. Which means, in near time, we'll see more subtitles, dubbing done in English language. Besides, the English speaking west is ready to pay several times more than their eastern counterparts.

The penetration of mobile phones has made this exponentially proliferated. A Common man can relish the film sitting at his cosy homesphere. Easiest way to garner profit is to communicate through the Prestige language, English. If a man makes mistake in mathematical/numerical calculation, nobody would say anything. It's deemed as a natural mistake. But, if anyone falters while speaking, even make a spelling mistake while writing in English, he is made fun of. For, English speaking and writing is of paramount importance in our society.

SOCIAL MEDIA & ENGLISH LANGUAGE TODAY

Social media has an overbearing presence in today's life across the globe. It's impact is even more assiduously felt where population density is more. In south east Asian region, especially India, we are gawking at this march of social media presence.

This brings us to notice the impact of English learning down the line of these commoners who, even a decade ago, did not matter. Commoners are using this language through text messaging, enjoying watching something on social media uploaded in English. Is it not funny to guess that an illiterate man is using phone numbers in English numericals? Or can read or guess the text sent in English?

Govt. NGOs have, for the last five decades at least, been plying hard to educate commoners. To what extent so far?? Answer is not to mentioned. But, technology has done it !!!

Rural India can boast of this change. Not only they watch, understand, share but also, make videos, Reels etc using guidelines written in English. Miracle has happened !!!

I've always held that Technology will change social behavioral pattern. This social massive attitudinal change will bring about change in political outlook. This will force, sooner or later, the political forces to control corruption and mass looting of the Govt coffer. Besides the greatest tool, mobile phone, in every body's hand has come to play as a symbol of social empowerment. Any injustice, torture, corrupt practice, by the click of the camera, go viral in a few minutes dragging the perpetrator to justice.

Previously, people in the upper echelons, would block information and practice corruption. Social media has hammered a death nail in its coffin. Imagine, stock market a couple of decades ago, happened to be a blurry game of luck. Today, many apps have come to play on the fore. One can judge any company going through its profit & loss statement, Balance Sheet, Annual report etc. Any perpetrators are quickly booked by the watchdogs, such as SEBI, ED etc. All because of Digital transformation in India. Middle class today dare to invest and reap the benefit. Financial Maturity is dawning on us !!!

I know there will still be voices of dissent. It's an ongoing process. In a few years, even a common man will matter to the society at large. Who knows, even a poor fellow at some remote corner, will be able to pull down the Govt like the legendary poor village-man Majhi who pulled a mountain down to show that NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE !!!

WHAT UNDERMINES TRUE ENGLISH LEARNING SPIRIT--WHY DO YOUNG PROFESSIONALS FACE ROADBLOCK AT THE OUTSET OF THEIR CAREER

Young Indian professionals, no matter however prudent their niche field may be, often are grounded after they begin their career in the corporate. Simply put, they either stagger in the lower rung or are ejected as they begin their job in reputed multinationals.

A few techies in the corporate may have no repercussions for not being proficient in English. But, a majority of young professionals do. It's because they fail to effectively communicate. This takes us a few years back. Let us now talk to their parents when they were in class V/VI in a so-called-English -medium-Indian school. Let us take this discussion to present tense and match our observations with a few statistics.

The Hindu Reports: Science and humanities must be on an even plane By Vivek Shome

FEBRUARY 02, 2020 00:24 IST...UPDATED: FEBRUARY 01, 2020 18:00 IST

" Engineering or medicine? That’s an age-old question faced by Indian students. The arts and humanities are out of the picture. Only those whose grades aren’t great study commerce or economics. But literature, history or political science? That must infer that the student has either failed or is rebellious........... The dream of a secure financial future can seem rosy, but will it compensate for broken dreams and a world without innovation?.........."

LANGUAGE has been given the utmost importance as a vehicle of expression. REGIONAL  or South Asian Vernacular LANGUAGES will be the medium of instructions. Even IITs will teach HUMANITIES !!!

We have a direct impact through INDIA'S DIGITAL transformation. This means you must know such languages to carry on economic transactions while in India. We, as language tutors, bear warm expectations to utilise our Human resources to the highest level.

THE NEW EDUCATION POLICY envisaged by the ministry of Education today ie on 29/07/2020 is going to bring about changes in the schooling and university level after 34 yrs of stagnation. MORE STRESS WILL BE GIVEN ON LANGUAGES AND CULTURE. It will help overcome the unemployability among the so called educated professional churned out by the Institutes today. We   have always been advocating such a step to stop the craze among the middle class to splurge on dead-end-courses.

There is a gamut of career options today including gig-jobs. In fact gig-economy contribute more in mitigating youth unrest by providing for them in their early youth. Hence it becomes even more pertinent to compete for a high clientele who belong to upper echelon of the society. Of course, one such cliet is worth 97 of commoners in terms of their spending capacity. Keeping this in view, we must also note that this 3% always attach importance to English communication as it being the PRESTIGE LANGUAGE. Hence, your kid, down the line after 10 years, as a young Doctor, Engineer, Lawyer, Chatrered Accountant, Manager, etc will require to successfully deal with his superiors, subordinates, colleagues and clients, customers. If he/she needs to earn better, he/she must garner English speaking high clientele.

Mad rush to spend more on Science subjects will certainly make the Linguistic skills to take a setback impairing the future of the kid.

Importance of English in Today's World

English is effectively read and spoken by only 2% of World population today. Little does one belittle its effect in today's Finance, social and entertainment world.

It's no denying fact that 97% of wealth is concentrated in 3% of the population. Our focus is to enter into this club of elite 3%, isn't it? Before we embark our journey to be one among them, let us focus on their characteristics. They think and behave differently. They all speak and write English cogently, coherently. If we need to sell our products and services to this elite class to be one of them one day, we must muster this language.

This brings us to the mode of learning this language when we are living in bilingual or multilingual society where this English language is not spoken on regular basis. Method is to know grammar effectively. I did not say academically, but effectively. Pedagogy has it that you learn in a much critical point of view. This approach takes away interest among the students. They become bored. They often do not understand the nitty gritty of the grammar discussed in their academic curriculum.

I've customised grammar in a lucid and fun building manner that my students may develop a true ingenuity in English learning.

It's an engaging enigma to practise English on a daily basis by everyone and all from every walks of life. Be one a doctor, engineer, chartered accountant, lawyer, teacher, astrologer, manager, officer etc. one can not help ignore English so long as the struggle is to catch a higher echelon of the society as your customer. remember, if your client is premium, you earn in premium. Or slog on among 97%. Good luck.
